History:
Far beyond the island of Mata Nui lies Rai Nui. An ancient island where Matoran live in peace, under the watchful eyes of their guardians. These guardians unlike those of Mata Nui, are not Toa but elemental Rahi. There are nine in all: Taizar, Litak, Ixus, Khyos, Proteus, Shiro, Madrake, Zeira, and Azrael. The watch over the Matoran who live in the eight elemental villages across the island. It is said that one day when the elemental Rahi fall that nine new guardians shall be chosen to defeat the darkness known as Sagtans, the son of Makuta. Who are these chosen ones? That remains to be seen.
The Guardians:
Taizar, the great Kanohi Dragon, is the protector of Ta-Icoa and the ancient spirit of fire.
Litak, the Doom Hapaka (Cerebrus), is the protector of Ga-Icoa and the ancient spirit of water.
Ixus, the Vawk Lion (Griffen), is the protector of Le-Icoa and the ancient spirit of air.
Khyos, the Artakha Centri (Centaur), is the protector of Ko-Icoa and the ancient spirit of ice.
Proteus, the Rock Lion, is the protector of Po-Icoa and the ancient spirit of stone.
Shiro, the Kra Vatuka (Titan), is the protector of Onu-Icoa and the ancient spirit of earth.
Madrake, the Kaviaka (Chimera), is the protector of Fi-Icoa and the ancient spirit of plant.
Zeira, the Saber Muaka, is the protector of Zec-Icoa and the ancient spirit of lightening.
Azral, the Moltnavika (Phoenix), is the ancient spirit of light.
Evil:
Sagtans, the Mapakadra (Demon), is the evil son of Makuta and the spirit of destruction.
Villages:
The eight elemental villages are:
Ta-Icoa: Fire
Ga-Icoa: Water
Le-Icoa: Air
Ko-Icoa: Ice
Po-Icoa: Stone
Onu-Icoa: Earth
Fi-Icoa: Plant
Zec-Icoa: Lightening
The Turaga:
Ouro-Fire
Evia-Water
Kyin-Air
Sybl-Ice
Nord-Stone
Quar-Earth
Liya-Plant
Aello-Lightening
The Matoran:
The Matoran who live on Rai Nui are just as unique as their guardians. Besides the Matoran of fire, water, air, ice, stone, earth, plant, and lightening there are others known as halflings. Halflings are Matoran with more than one elemental energy such as ice/fire or air/stone. These Matoran do not live in any specific village but live where the please. It is not unusual to find a ice/water Matoran living in Ta-Icoa or to find a fire/stone Matoran living in Ga-Icoa.
